Three-Dimension Terrain Model is the"frame work"of modeling Virtual Terrain Environment, and it is the basin of visualizing, wandering and analyzing terrain environment. It is significant to construct a suitable terrain model for real-time rendering terrain scene, simulating terrain environment in reality and achieving analysis functionality in VTE.It is important for simulating the objects on terrain or not in the Virtual Scene. So, in this dissertation, some research for realizing the simulation of tree, sky and flight vehicle have been done. The emphasis of this dissertation lies in modeling theories and methods for three-dimension terrain model. After summarizing the previous work in modeling ,mainly studying the RSG method and kinds of LOD modeling methods ,a novel LOD methods was came up. This method has several advantages. For example, it can fulfill Multi-resolution Terrain Modeling, it also can make the texture of terrain surface more smooth looking like and avoid the tracks of terrain model. At the same time, the new methods on controlling real-time continuous, view-dependent terrain model and simplifying the LOD model are studied and experimented.At last, the theories of lighting model and obtaining height are also analyzed.
