Current urban water supply network has formed a huge-sized and complicated pipeline system,so in each city there are a large group of maps and statistical forms datum for the design, construction and completion for a water supply network. For a long time, these datum in urban water supply departments are administered by means of manpower. With the rapid development of economy, the management mode of the traditional manpower can hardly meet the need in reality. And in other hand, files for the existing water supply pipelines are not complete, accurate and accord with the reality. Pipelines often be dig broken or damaged, which results to severe accidents such as water stoppage or pipe explosion etc. To improve the management level for the pipelines, water supply departments hope to establish water supply information management systems. Applying GIS(Geographical Information System)technology to the urban water supply network administration,is an important way to realize the pipeline scientific and automatic administration. This project aims at design and development of GIS on urban water supply network by using Visual Basic6.0 on the basic of ArcInfo and is supported by OCX. The thesis begins with background knowledge introduction for the GIS on urban water supply network and the relevant basic theories. According to the system general goal, design principles, and project technical contents,at the same time combining characteristics of ArcInfo second-development platform, the paper presents system integrated architecture, and puts forward the system comprehensive design scheme. The emphasis is put on a deep and particular analysis & design of pipe-broken analysis module and section analysis module. For pipe-broken analysis, a new network model is presented based on dynamic segmentation technique. For vertical section analysis, a special data structure good for creating vertical section figure is designed. Finally, the system is implemented basing on the previous detailed work.
