In this paper, an extensive investigation was conducted to evaluate the physical and mechanical behavior of recycled coarse aggregate (RCA) and compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, tensile strength of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC). According to investigations in this paper, comments of classification of RCA were put forward. Standard values and standard deviations of compressive strength and tensile strength were also proposed. The following research work was carried out:(1) Various physical and mechanical properties of RCA were investigated according to the Standard and Test Method for the Coarse Aggregate of Normal Concrete (JGJ 53-92). Attached mortar content was tested according to overseas method. At last, Based on the achievements of this thesis, along with the foreign standards of RCA, the classification standard of RCA in China is proposed and suggested.(2) Influence factors of compressive strength of RAC were studied through a series of experimental work with 369 cubes, mainly covered the effect of the content of brick in RCA, the effect of two kinds of mixing method, the effect of the maximal particle size of RCA, the effect of the strength of original concrete, and the effect of various composing of RCA.(3) Based on experimental data in (2), the statistical characteristics for the compressive strength of RAC with RCA from different origins were determined. Based on the results of Bayes estimations, the standard deviations for the compressive strength of RAC with strength grades of C20 and C30 were proposed.(4) Influence factors of splitting tensile strength of RAC were investigated through a series of experimental work with 369 cubes, mainly covered the effect of the content of brick in RCA, the effect of two kinds of mix method, the effect of the maximal particle size of RCA, the effect of the strength of original concrete, and the effect of various composing of RCA.(5) Based on experimental data in (4), the statistical characteristics for the tensile strength of RAC with RCA from different origins were determined.(6) Based on experimental data of (2) and (4), results of the statistical analysis for the relationship between compressive strength and splitting tensile strength of RAC was given.
