North American light wood frame structures have been introduced in China for a few years,In Chinese Code for design of timber structures (GB50005-2003), some requirements of the light wood frame structures were added based on NBC and IBC 1995. But until now, the dynamic behavior and seismic performance of wood-concrete hybrid structures haven't been researched either in China or in North America. So shake table tests of simplified wood-concrete hybrid structure was developed in State Key Laboratory for Disaster Reduction in Civil Engineering of Tongji University cooperated with Forintek Canada Corp.In this paper, the following items are carried out: 5 full scale wood-concrete hybrid structures different in stiffness ratio between upper and lower structure were designed, fabricated, and shake table tests of the 5 structures have been performed separately. In each test, 3 ground motions were used, and each structure experienced 4 or 5 earthquake intensities for each ground motion. Based on the dynamic test results and the damage of the structure, the vibration characteristic is analyzed, in addition, the theoretical analysis is implemented by methods including bottom shear method, spectrum response method and time history analysis method. The main conclusion of this paper is:1. The wood-concrete hybrid structures performed well under earthquake; Holdown plays a important role in resisting the seismic force; the connection between concrete and wood structure is reliable; structures with smaller stiffness ratio responded much strongly under seismic motion input than the one with larger stiffness ratio; damage of light wood frame structure occurred mainly in the second story, and nail failure is its dominant damage.2. The dynamic testing result demonstrates that: with the increasing of the earthquake intensity, natural frequency decreased, damping ratio increased, vibration mode shape changed significantly before and after test because of the decreasing stiffness of the second story; the initial damping ratio of the structures...
