The reliability of substation bus arrangements plays a critical role in reliable and steady operation of power system. With rapid development of power grid, the reliability calculation turns to be complex and how to quantitatively analyze the reliability of substation bus arrangement becomes a challenge.In traditional power system reliability evaluation algorithm, substation bus arrangements and transmission network are evaluated respectively. In order to take the impact of bus arrangement into consideration when evaluating the reliability of the whole transmission network, a novel approach that combines the traditional Analytical method with Monte-Carlo simulation method is presented in this paper. This evaluating approach lays strong emphasize on the interaction of the substation and power transmission network. Reliability evaluation of large-scale power system can also be implemented. Furthermore, impact of each part contingency on power system is analyzed quantitatively. At first, the Analytical method is used to analyze the reliability of substation bus arrangement and the analyze result is recorded for later use. Then the simplified model of substation bus arrangement and the transmission network are joined together to form a whole power system model. The unit fault in the whole transmission network is performed by Monte-Carlo Simulation method. At last, reliability index are calculated according to the simulation.
