For several decades, the construction of water power in our country has developed greatly; lots of pumped-storage power stations have been constructed. Pressure steel pipe is the important part in structure of water conveying in water power engineering project. When a pipe need to serve several equipments, or need to be led part flux, it is necessary to use branch pipe. So the design and study of branch pipe is one of the important parts in the steel design.In accordance with the practice of the pumped-storage power station's branch pipe in Wu long mountain of ZheJiang province project, four different cases as follows are investigated in this paper:(1) The branch pipe's design theory is introduced and its influence factors and reduces stress concentration methods, branch pipe optimum design method is brought forth.(2) FEM theory is formulated.(3) The pumped-storage power station's branch pipe in Wu long mountain project is adopted by the Wye branches of steel pipe. First, it carries out optimum design, and then it considers the surrounding rock's combine action and gap's size influence, the design proper is verified by numerical calculation method. finally, some analysis results and conclusions are gained.(4) The pumped-storage power station's branch pipe in Wu long mountain project is adopted the reinforced concrete branch pipe. The load-bearing of surrounding rock is considered. Its operating construction stage and maintenance construction stage are analyzed and the prestress project and non-prestress project are compared. So some useful conclusions are taken.
