Analog and digital video signal will coexist in a long time in the process of digital TV's development . The video format conversion chip will be able to convert formats between each other. The main problem that we face is: enormous dataflow,high speed and complicated video display format.The data memory system of video format conversion chip is introduced .The advantages of SDRAM are that it is very small,very cheap and fairly faster,so it is the best selection of external memory. SDRAM stores all there quired data during the video format-converting.it is a base for all work togo on wheels. In order to solve the problem of enormous data flow and highspeed,design of SDRAM controller is very pivotal.A more adaptale SDRAM controller is discussed based on SDRAM'basic operations.More attention is paied on the methods of SDRAM controller design,such as high performance coding,READ/WRITE operation timing analysis,multi-clock design and so on.Meanwhile.in order to save manpower and time in the following edition, we also realize a DDR SDRAM (Double Data Rate Synchronous Dynamic Ram) controller .A Top-Down design scheme is adopted in the design. The design specification, compartmentalization and design of sub-modules, functional simulation and logic synthesis are described in detail in this thesis. Functional simulation is completed.and hadware test is doing on the FPGA board. The differences of ASIC complement and FPGA complement are also introduced.
