Presently, a new type of replenishment ship, which has several functions such as integrated replenishment on sea, loading and unloading at ro/ro mode or shoal mode is cried for in order to meet the requirement of coastal protection in our country. Hence, the concept of a minitype multifunctional replenishment ship is put forward, which can load kinds of materials, such as wet goods, dry goods, vehicles, containers and so on and supply landing crafts on the sea and supply coastal islands. The ship concepts and the replenishment technology are studied as following:Firstly, the basic ship form is demonstrated according to expected performances. Then the principal dimensions are analyzed. The propulsion plants and steering gears are chosen from several plans. At last, the line plan and general arrangement are given.Details about the skin-to-skin replenishment procedure are studied. Reasonable solutions are put forward to deal with key problems in this process. Specially, a simple mathematic model is presented for the environmental loads of two ships side by side moored on single point. An example of a problem involving environmental forces is used for demonstration.When the minitype replenishment ship supplies landing drafts on sea, the moving of cargoes expedites rolling of the ship, which has bad effects on the normal task. At the same time, due to the ceaseless change of cargo loads, the floating state of the minitype multifunctional ship changes. To improve the working sea state, rolling control measures are studied and the rolling acceleration is calculated.Because the multifunctional ship is a new conception, model tests are needed to verify the theoretical calculations. In addition, according to model tests, the method of computing can be improved and corrected. Therefore, the environmental model test was organized to measure the relative motion and forces between skin-to-skin ships, which will present corrected information for the development of this type of ship.
