Because of the limit of computer technology, traditional explanations and analysis for engineering geologic data were restricted to 2D and static mode for long time. It has been difficult to satisfy the demands of spatial analysis. With rapid progress of computer science, it is possible to implement 3D modeling and visual analysis of complex geologic condition in computer. So implementing visual analysis of geologic data based on 3D model become more and more important.According to Jinping First-level Hydropower Station, the database of 3D visual system of engineering geologic information (VisualGeo) is researched and developed in this thesis. Method of engineering geologic exploration and original data is analyzed, 3D spatial interpretation is advanced on the basis of traditional 2D method, 3D geologic drawing base and special database of 3D visual system is established, providing high quality data for 3D modeling and visual manage and query is realized. General speaking, the main contents and achievements of this thesis are embodied as following:(1) Operation of geologic exploration and the achievement of hydropower engineering are fully analyzed, form terrain and geological measuring of ground surface to exploratory pits, geophysical exploration under ground. Original data are introduced from its source and origin. Plane interpretation is explained through information collection.(2) Basing on analysis of information of geological exploration, original database of geological engineering is established.(3) Combining require of 3D modeling, spatial interpretation of geological structure like terrain, formation, constitution is put forward on the basis of traditional plane interpretation. 3D drawing data base of Jinping First-level Hydropower Station is established when applying this method to geological cross section.(4) 3D visual manage and query of geological engineering. According to 3D model of geological information, corresponding geological information data is collected. Combining such database and 3D model and adjusting information to practical change, 3D visual manage and query of geological engineering is realized.(5) Finally, this system is applied to 3D visual analysis of geological information of Jinping First-level Hydropower Station. Not only high quality data is provided for 3D modeling, but also the geologic is fully used, it leads to the significant improvement for the engineering design level and has great prospect.
