The inter-turn short circuit of rotor winding is one of the common faults. When it happens, it will lead to rotor vibration, and even cause rotor earthen, rotor winding burned-out, generator loss of excitation, generator components magnetization and so on, that will endanger the safe of generator and system. So it is important to analyze the mechanism and on line diagnosis method of inter-turn short circuit fault of rotor winding.Aims at the generator 3# in Jiu gang Electric Power Plant, we analyze the rotor structure and common form and cause of rotor winding inter-turn short-circuit fault, then discuss the theory of RSO deeply, and we design and conduct RSO experiment on 3# generator according to practical situation. Based on the waveforms and data, we certificate the theory of RSO experiment. Finally, in order to implement the rotor winding inter turn short circuit fault detection of generator, we set up artificial neural network (ANN) for the testing of generator rotor inter turn short circuit based on the Artificial Neural Network workbox of MATLAB.
