The inter-turn short circuit of rotor winding is one of the common faults. When it happens, it will lead to rotor vibration, and even cause rotor earthen, rotor winding burned-out, generator loss of excitation, generator components magnetization and so on, that will endanger the safe of generator and system. So it is important to analyze the mechanism and on line diagnosis method of inter-turn short circuit fault of rotor winding. Aims at the practical situation of generator 8# in Matou Electric Power Plant, we analyze the rotor structure and common form and cause of rotor winding inter-turn short-circuit fault, and through analyzing electromagnetism characteristic of the fault, we propose a mathematic model and criterion for fault diagnosis, and develop the Rotor Inter-turn Short-Circuit Diagnosis System of Generator 8# in Matou Electric Power Plant based on windows2000 and Visual Basic. We choose SQL Server that has superior performance as background database, and the entire client computers in the local area network can observe the operating condition of current time of the generator by accessing the server. Half year's operating at field indicates that, this system has stable performance, and it can be used conveniently.
