Because of the novelty of principle and construction of Ultrasonic Motor (abbr. USM) and its characteristics of directly driven , multiformity construction , non-electromagnetic interference , non-influenced by electromagnetic interference , its trend is to replace electromagnetic motor in some special situations in future , while at present it can't replace electromagnetic motor entirely.In researching USM, essential mathematic model and analytical method are the foundations to research the control characteristic of system and analyse motor performance. They are effective tools to optimize the structural parameters of USM. In this paper, we deduce the operation principle of Ring-type Travelling-Wave Ultrasonic Motors (abbr. RTWUSM) by mathematics. The contact between rotor and stator is simplified to a two-dimension elastic contact.Thus we gain the contact model and its mathematical representation. The static running state of RTWUSM can be more correctly simulated in short-term by using this contact model.Because of the quick response characteristic of RTWUSM, the traditional measuring method and devices used in electromagnetic motor are never suitably used to measure RTWUSM's start-stop characteristic. So special measuring method and devices should be used to measure RTWUSM's transient state and static state characteristics. To achieve this goal, this paper designes a system to test running characteristics against RTWUSM extensive used at present. This paper describes the design of the hardware and software system used modularized design. The digital signal processing and the software interface between Matlab and VC++ have been well researched. This thesis describes the processing flow of software moduels and communication protocols between DSP and PC carefully.
