This paper is a summary of the author's experience on the building of radar positions and auxiliary project for radar troops. Closely integrated with practice, it starts from the theory of architectural planning and design for radar troops in mountainous regions and studies the relations between the physical geographical features of mountainous regions and the planning and design of buildings. On the one hand, studying the technical and tactical characteristics of radar troops can guide the war preparedness engineering for radar positions and camps; on the other hand, knowing the physical geographical features of mountainous regions should make our engineering much tallied with "nature view", "ecology view" and "sustainable development concept". Firstly, factors of the radar position should be reasonably laid out according to the demands of the high-tech equipment of radar troops. Then neatly select configurations and styles for different buildings at the premise of meeting the demands of war preparedness and the needs of the troops and in full consideration of the physical geographical features of mountainous regions. Pay attention to the buildup of communication; adopt reasonable type of grounding and configuration for each unit of building; adhere to the principle of protecting the ecologic environment of mountainous regions and try best to make the construction ecotypic in order to reduce work quantity and costs in construction, and to economize on energy and expenses in daily use and maintenance. All these work together to achieve the final goal of sustainable development of building construction for radar troops in mountainous regions. The paper begins with an account of the basic concept of architectural planning in mountainous region and the great significance of the presentation of the subject. Then it discourses upon the special needs of radar troops, the characteristics of architectural planning and design in mountainous regions, the configuration of each unit of building and the ecologic environment system of mountainous regions. It also draws technical essentials for different specialties of building engineering inmountainous regions, and discusses the problems which should be paid attention to in practical engineering for the specialties of architecture, structure, water supply & drainage and electric. Lastly, it makes a summary of theoretic methods for architectural planning and design for radar troops in mountainous regions and gives brief opinions upon further research.
