With the ever growing concerns on global energy and environment issues, it is the main task of modern automotive industry to develop vehicles with lower emission and fuel consumption. From the view of power performance, it is a Coordinated Control Issue that how to control the work of engine and motor when their torque commands which is the output of Energy Management Strategy of Vehicle Controller in Hybrid Electric Vehicle fluctuates or sharply changes. The aim of the control system is ensuring that the overall torque of engine and motor not only accord with the torque demand of driver but also possess good dynamic response characteristic. Firstly, as the basis to research the Coordinated Control Issue, a forward hybrid powertrain system model was developed to analyze the prototype of Parallel Hybrid Electric Vehicle. According to the real vehicle powertrain configuration and the dynamic characteristics of powertrain components, the dynamic system model can be well used to simulate the dynamic performance of vehicle under some complicated working conditions. Furthermore, the veracity and simplicity have been compromised in the model.Based on the model mentioned above, a Hybrid Dynamical System theory was introduced to formulate and set up the hierarchical-structure control system of Parallel Hybrid Electric Vehicle. In this control system, the Coordinated Control Issue and its fundamentality cause was analyzed. A Coordinated Control Algorithm based on the Model-Match-Control method was designed. The performance of algorithm was verified by simulation testing in powertrain system and control system model. In addition, the performance of algorithm which was designed with different control methods was compared.Based on the HILS test bench of Electronic control system for Hybrid Electric Vehicle in the laboratory, control software flat of test system which based on Real-Time Windows Target was build-up. The software was designed and the hardware for signal processing of test bench was better developed. Meanwhile, the security design of test bench was improved. On this basis, the input and output signalof test-bed was calibrated and the important characteristic parameter of test system was measured. Finally, the experiment scheme and control flow which was used to validate the effectiveness of test system and the powertrain system model was established. Through the Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulation (HILS) experiment, the validity of test system and the powertrain system model was verified.
