As Australia is one of the driest continents in the world, water is a vital resource for Australia's present and future prosperity. Australia is now recognized as a pacesetter of water resources management. Its advanced management in the aspects of legislation, economy and education has led to a more economically sound and environmentally compatible water industry. This dissertation aims to introduce the history of water resources management in Australia, and to provide an analysis of the legislative, economic and educational management of its water resources management in detail, and to attempt to study how Australia's valuable expertise of water resources management could benefit China's water management through cooperation and exchanges at various levels.The dissertation consists of six chapters. Chapter 1 is the introduction of the study. Chapter 2 to 5 are the main part of the dissertation overviewing Australia's water resources and unveiling an in-depth analysis of water resources management in Australia. Chapter 6 provides conclusive observations.The main content of the six chapters are as follows:Chapter 1 is an introduction in which the issue is introduced and the objectives, methodology and implications of the study are dealt with.Chapter2 looks at the background of the study. It provides a brief introduction of the status quo of water resources in Australia, including the quality and quantity of Australia's surface water and underground water.Chapter 3, 4 and 5 review the history of Australia's water resources management in legislation, economy and education respectively and analyse the status quo of the water resources management in these three aspects which can benefit Chinese water resources management.In the last chapter, both retrospective and prospective approaches are adopted in drawing conclusive remarks on the Sino-Australian cooperation which has been developing over the past two decades and assessing the further growth of this cooperation.
