Under the market direction functioning, the user demand becomes the driving factor of the enterprise to make the product. The product life cycle is more and more short and the consumer's product demand tends to the varieties . The traditional product design thought is designing the product in the certain technology scope. The product family design is the best product design means in the certain degree and can meet the market demand. At present, the product family design is only the modular design's expansion, nobody has detailed the product family design's process .With the automobile industry development, the vehicle speed,stability and comfortableness enhances the installment request for the suspension. The suspension's performance is important to the vehicle's power and mobility ,so the shock absorber as the major component of the suspension is important to the automobile operating performance. At present the shock absorber design and certain product for the sole design duty, therefore ,the product family design applied in the damping shock absorber design is the main research direction. Firstly, the thesis details the design complexity of the controllable damping shock absorbs at four aspects ,such as the product structure,the part relation,the operating performance and the working conditions ,and reduces the complexity of the product design through the axiomatic design(AD). It ensures the product function carrier through the controllable damping shock absorber function analysis, and proposes three methods of the controllable damping shock absorbs which satisfies the independent axiom through the controllable damping shock absorber chart of the function request and the design parameter. By the analytic hierarchy process, it determines the relative importance coefficient of the three methods of the controllable damping shock absorbs and calculate the information content I of the methods, by the least information content chooses the best method of the controllable damping shock absorbs.Secondly, the thesis expanses the product model of the controllable damping shock absorbers. It chooses the diameter d as the major structural parameter and the diameter l as the major functional parameter, and calculate appropriate differential common ratio according to the functional parameters of the scope and parameters of the proposed series. Then ,it expanses the same type of the controllable damping shock absorber product model at the base of the foundation model using the similar design .Thirdly, the thesis makes the module division of the controllable damping shock absorber. It analyses the similar characteristics of the controllable damping shock absorber's parts at the aspects such as the functional characteristics, physical characteristics, Process characteristics, and establish the relations matrix S of the controllable damping shock absorber's parts. It obtains the largest fuzzy tree T of the controllable damping shock absorbers by the method of the fuzzy tree module, and the controllable damping shock absorber divided into five functional modules.At last, by the combining of the similar design and the modular design, the thesis builds the product family and details the construction process of the controllable shock absorber damping product family. It shows the building process of the product family using the matrix , the matrix elements represents the product module, the row represents the product model and the list represents series product modular, the direction k of the matrix represents the diversification modular of the product. It designs the same type product modules by the composite parts at the controllable damping shock absorber model which designed by the similar design, and diversification the module of the controllable damping shock absorber at the base of the morphological matrix. It makes the product family of the controllable damping shock absorber by the combination of functional modules.
