Gravity abutment is a under structure of highway bridge which is often used. It depends on its gravity to balance outside load and keep stabilization. It can be built by stone or piece-stone concrete. Gravity abutment is used broadly to high-grade highway because its construction material has rich source. However, for some reason, many diseases appear on gravity abutment in engineering practice. Some highway bridge produce very serious problem after delivering to use for one to two years. It indicates by investigation that disciplinary disease appears on gravity with its height and width increasing. For example, crack come into being at the corner of front wall and side wall or the middle of front wall, or side wall inclines and moves outside. It will extend rapidly once crack produce so that construction schedule and using safety are affected seriously. At the same time, huge economic losses produce to constructer and owner and worse effects bring out. So it is very necessary that study on the consolidation method of gravity abutment.Resembling rule is deduced to modeling test of high abutment using equation analysis method. And the test project of oblique U-shaped high abutment is given. It is observed and analyzed at length that the strain and crack of abutment model under the action of outside load. Testing data is disposed and analyzed. Then it is concluded that the characteristic of strain and crack before and after consolidation and using different consolidation project when abutment being under the action of solid force and outside load.Finite unit numerical simulation calculation is conduct to oblique U-shaped high abutment using ANSYS software. It is analyzed that the effect of abutment height on the intensity and stability of oblique U-shaped high abutment. Distribution and changing rule is given of stress and displacement field of abutment with different height. Calculationresults are achieved that the stress and displacement of the antetype and model of oblique U-shaped high abutment before and after consolidation. The relationship models of stress and displacement are established between the antetype and model of oblique U-shaped high abutment.Based on modeling test and finite unit simulation, the cause of crack of oblique U-shaped abutment is put forward. Based on the comparison of stress and displacement of abutment before and after consolidation and different consolidation project, suggestions are given that design and construction of new oblique U-shaped high abutment and consolidation method of old oblique U-shaped high abutment.
