Traffic congestion and the limited ground are the bottleneck which restricts the development of civil economy and civilization. The phenomenon occurs not only in overseas cities, but also in civil big cities. A lot of reasons can cause the phenomenon, but the author is not considered all of reasons because of the limited energy and limited time. The author only researches the biggest use efficiency on road section which is ignored by people on road which automobile and bicycle are not separated and with physical separation. The main factors which effect use efficiency on road section contain the separation facility between automobile lane and bicycle lane, lane capacity and the conversion factor that bicycle is converted into automobile. If we want to research use efficiency on road section, then we firstly have to research the factors which effect use efficiency on road section. Therefore, the dissertation mainly researches bicycle conversion factor, automobile lane capacity, bicycle lane capacity, the biggest traffic efficiency and the biggest communication efficiency.In the first part of the dissertation, the background, actuality, meaning and main contents of this dissertation are introduced.In the second part of the dissertation, the main research content is bicycle conversion factor on road which automobile and bicycle are not separated and with physical separation. The conversion factor calculation model is built separately based on the characteristic which automobile and bicycle run on two road forms. General saturated flow rate of bicycle and automobile should be a stable value without effect of other automobiles on the condition that the rate is saturated when automobile and bicycle run on the same pack of road, namely one reduces and the other increase. The dissertation calculates bicycle conversion factor based on the theory. According to the principle of capacity, when the rate of automobile and bicycle is saturated, the conversion factor of bicycle is a ratio that the saturation flow rate of bicycle is divided by that of automobile on the same width road with physical separation. The dissertation calculates bicycle conversion factor by actual survey data and then put forward corresponding recommended value of conversion factor based on the results. In the third part of the dissertation, the main research content is the capacity of urban road section. Capacity is not only the important factor which designs road transects and enforces automobile-bicycle separation, but also the important factor which confirms use efficiency on road section. At present, there are three methods to calculate capacity, which are theory method, practice method and simulation method. Because practice method is simple and exact, so the dissertation applies the method to calculate bicycle lane capacity and automobile lane capacity on road which automobile and bicycle are not separated and with physical separation. The dissertation uses density-volume curve chart to calculate bicycle lane capacity and educes the concrete result based on the traffic survey data in Shijiazhuang city. The dissertation takes saturated rate for approximate automobile lane capacity. The method is international and simple, and the saturated rate that is received by amount of survey data is close to capacity. The dissertation gives the concrete result based on the traffic survey data at Shijiazhuang for five typical road sections on two road forms.In the forth part of the dissertation, the main research content is use efficiency on road section based on above two parts which is divided into the biggest traffic efficiency and the biggest communication efficiency. Firstly, the dissertation defines the biggest use efficiency on road section and builds its calculation model. Secondly, the dissertation separately makes a target of the biggest traffic efficiency and the biggest communication to calculate critical width of separation facility between automobile and bicycle at the condition which bicycle conversion factor and capacity are given. Lastly, the dissertation makes example for actual road sections at Shijiazhuang to explain the course in calculating the biggest traffic efficiency and the biggest communication efficiency, also critical width of separation facility.In the end, the dissertation summarizes the findings and achievements, and brings forward the issues for further research.
