Because of large lateral stiffness, reinforced concrete shear wall can reduce the lateral displacements of structures effectively, and have a better seismic behavior. As one of the main lateral force resisting elements, reinforced concrete shear walls have been widely used in many high-rise buildings. In recent years, more and more scholars have paid attention to the nonlinear analysis model for shear wall, and put forward many kinds of analysis models which are however not ideal for simulating its nonlinear behavior. In this paper, a new nonlinear macro-model for shear wall is proposed, which is based on the particle-truss model for concrete. The model is composed of concrete elements and reinforcement elements. Finite element analysis software ANSYS is employed to simulate ang calculate the macro-model for shear wall; the verification of the reliability of this macro-model is carried out through the comparisons with the results of our high performance concrete experimental program. Making comparisons and analysis among different sizes of elements for the macro-model, it is found that a suitable size of element should be selected to get a better calulation precision. Some useful conclusions are drawn from analyzing factors, such as the concrete grades, the axial compression ratio and shear span ratio, that influence the seismic behavior of shear wall.
