In the prolonged period of time, many ancient cultural heritages in our country can still be seen. Earthen site is a very important part of the ancient cultural heritages. It is constantly devastate by water, wind and soluble salt etc because its building material is raw soil, ramming and adobe. With the acceleration of social economic construction and the urban development, living environment of earthen site is greatly reduced. The lack of scientific management makes the protection on most earthen sites poor. The earthen site will be destroyed forever, if we don' t salvage it.Current research work on protection and reinforcement of earthen site develops very slowly in our country-there is no complete set of standard to be complied with and even no suitable protection material to be adopted. In view of this situation, the dissertation started from the development of the technology used to protect the earthen site, proceed with the discussion about protection and reinforcement of the earthen site in situ from aspects of design and construction. Besides, this dissertation combined with the engineering case of relics of da-fo-si in ancient city of Gao-chang, studied the mechanism and effects of BS-10 for the reinforcement of earthen site through the indoor experiment. Main research content as follow:1 In the dissertation, author reviews the developed history and presents situation of earthen site protection and reinforcement.2 The author analyzed and studied the reinforcement materials commonly used for earthen site both at home and abroad.3 The dissertation provided theoretical basis for protection and reinforcement of the earthen site by study damages of earthen site and its mechanism.4 The author analyzed some problems that should be paid attention to in design and construction of earthen site protection and reinforcement.5 This thesis discussed the selection principle of reinforcement material for earthen site and the properties of common reinforce materials.6 The dissertation studied the oil sample of ancient city of Gao-chang before and after the sample was consolidated with BS-10 through indoor experiment: color observations, anti-ultraviolet experiments, slaking tests, compression strength experiments. freezing and thawing tests and weathering test.Large quantity of laboratory simulation experiments indicated: the anti-ultraviolet property, compression strength, disintegration property and ability of anti-Aeolian of the soil samples reinforced by BS-10 were greatly improved and the color of the samples did not change. The test and the study has improved the BS-10 is a better reinforcement material for earthen site in arid region of northwestern China.
