Recent years, the road construction advance rapidly in our country. Besides, a great deal road surface is confronted with repairing and maintaining. To be the main equipment of road surface repairing and maintaining, the road cold miller is given more and more attention by constructor due to its high quality and efficiency. The requirement of road cold miller increases quickly. Many external companies enter China market one after another, and many domestic companies caught hold of the commercial chance, began the research and producing work.There is a wide gap between the external miller and the domestic miller, on the aspect of technical and reliability. The milling drum is the key work setting of the road miller, but the research of it is very weak, either in theory or in practice. Mostly domestic companies depend on importing. This situation seriously restricts the development of domestic road millers. In order to promote road millers development, and reduce production costs, raise competitive price, the milling drum is taken as the object of study in this article, offering theory advice to milling drum designing and construction.First, the motion of milling drum and the motion trace of tools, the relation of uneven -ness and motion parameters are analyzed. Second, the resistance of milling drum is analyzed, and a computing method of the resistance and power of milling drum are put forward, the milling power is influenced by motion parameters, the relation of motion parameter and power match is analyzed. Third, the milling power of CM2000 miller is computed for different road material, the problems which should be paid attention and solved in designing and construction are put forward. Finally, the design procedures of milling drum design and tools layout are advanced.
