Water damage to asphalt is common and even serious in some areas in china. This problem can be solved from two aspects: one is to enhance the anti-water-damage ability of the asphalt mixtures, namely the enhancement of stability against water-damage, the other one is to try every possible means to reduce or prevent water from entering the structure of the pavement ,or let the water which has entered go away as quickly as possible. It's obvious that the prevention of water-damage is a systematic project, and only from overall situation ,well dealt with every related links ,can the problem be minimized. In thin paper, a research on measures to prevent water-damage to asphalt pavement was made, on the basis of the understanding of the researches on it both at home and abroad synthetically, combined with the research program of the freeway, from Nanning to Youyi in Guangxi ,called"researches on the structure design ,the make up of the asphalt mixtures and its performance of the pavements of high–graded highway in Guangxi province".Firstly ,on the current technical specifications, the gradation design for the asphalt mixtures was optimized ,and the gradation ranges of AC-25J,AC-20J,AC-13J's ore materials were put forward, through lots of indoor tests, with emphasis to the anti-leaking and anti-water-damage abilities while given consideration to their high-temperature stability and other abilities.Secondly, aimed at the technical problem of the variation of Yinan rock aggregate in the absorbing-water rate, a research was made on the degree of influence of the variation on the optimal asphalt/aggregate ratio, by the way of adding some wood fiber, through orthogonal test. Ways to reduce the ratio's sensitivity to water were explored and measures to effectively control the quality of construction were put forward.Thirdly, on the basis of the related research achievements both at home and abroad, through lots of indoor tests, the design for the ore material gradation of asphalt-treated permeable base(ATPB) was optimized, an unique gradation range was put forward, and the experimental section was successfully constructed.At last, through comparison among the waterproof layers which have been used, the position,material standard,construction requirements and processing art of the adopted waterproof layer were put forward, and this kind of waterproof layer was used in the whole route.
