The water damage of asphalt pavement has been one of the uppermost diseases in highway, according to a lot of investigations, inadequate subsurface drainage of pavement has been identified as a primary cause of pavement premature failures. The pavement sub drainage system removes excessive subsurface water to the edge of highway in time, so it can improve pavement performance and extend service life. Asphalt Treated Permeable Base(ATPB) material has been widely used due to its high drain ability and construction convenience.Firstly, lots of laboratory has been carried out to study the design method of ATPB by using Bailey method and the method of SAC graduation design. The analysis of result data has been described to determine the effects of aggregate gradation and asphalt content on the permeability and the resilient modulus of ATPB materials. The secondly ,use mechanics of fluids analyzed the work character and process seep time of permeable base. Due to permeability is the key in controlling drainage capability, a new testing procedure and testing machine were developed to obtain accurate results, this paper also studied the trait of the permeameter. Based on number of experiments indoors, research of much gradation used on permeable, analyzed some gradation theory that used in the mix design for ATPB.After finish study on character, based on the construction of the ATPB test section on NaiYou road in GuangXi, some construction experiences have been summarized to ensure the drainage effect of subsurface drainage system.
