With the rapid development of economy in China, the quantity of automobile is keeping increasing. So traffic accidents arising year after year and people have come to the realization that the automobile safety is a serious problem. When the side impact occurred, passengers would be hurt seriously in most situations. The region for absorb energy of side structure is not as enough as the front or rear structure of automobile is the main reason. Once the impact from side occurred, the narrow space between passengers and impact load make the protection of passengers'safety become a difficult problem. So the research in this field will do good to our society. In October 28, 1999, CMVDR 294 (Design Regulation for Protect Passenger in Frontal Impact) has been carried into execution. It means that the development of crash regulation in our country has catch up the international development. The regulation for protect passenger in side impact in our country will be carry out recently. So we can see that the research of side impact will become a rapid grow up field. At present the appraisal injures which regarding the occupant injuries has unified evaluation criteria. Kinds of regulations eventually injure the target regarding the passive safety appraisal take the occupant injuries as to rest on. There isn't a unified and accepted evaluation criteria for side crashworthiness. And regulations also do not have detailed specific stipulation.Based on a lot of associated papers, the significance of the automobile passive safety; the overseas and domestic study progress; the method and content of research; the theory of crash simulation have been introduced. According to the evaluation methods of body crashworthiness in developed countries, the side crashworthiness guidelines of body have been proposed in this paper. This paper uses the multi-rigid body theory the method, using the injured simulation software MADYMO of TNO Corporation's to establish the side collision chassis structure and the crew member restrains the system the mathematical simulation model, has conducted the automobile body side crashworthiness.1 The side impact of the domestic and foreign research condition and technique has been expatiated. The evaluation criteria has been summed up.
