In our country, the grade crossing is master in urban road traffic, mix traffic situation of motor vehicle and non-motor vehicle behaviors seriously, thus the accident that side impact of vehicles has caused is highest in all traffic accident. Take traffic accident that happened in the year of 2000 as an example, the front impact accident accounted for 20.8 percent, and the side impact accident accounted for 34.4 percent. By the situation of injuries and deaths in the year of 2000, the number of injuries and deaths that front impact caused accounted for 26.9 percent, and side impact accounted for 32.3 percent. It is obvious that studying side impact characteristic of vehicles is essential for improving traffic safety.As to the car, because its side's intensity is relatively weak, and the deformable space is relatively small while colliding, the injury to the passenger should be more serious than the other types of collision. Therefore, in order to reduce the passenger injury in side impact of the car, research on the safety of side impact has already become a focus in passive safety of the car.On the basis of non-linear finite element theory, large deformation elastic-plastic mechanics and contact surface processing method, the basic theory of car impact simulation is analyzed. The mathematic model of main parts of the car body is built. I get point clouds of main parts of the car body using FARO coordination machine, build CAD model of the car body in CATIA, divide the net in HyperMesh, and complete the calculation model used for numerical simulation of car side impact in PAM-CRASH. The geometrical, material and mechanical model of Moving Deformable Barrier (MDB) is built according to requirement of EEVC standard.According to ECE R95 regulation, simulation for car side impact is done. The simulation result is compared with the rear test, which prove the feasibility of simulation model and correctness of simulation result. A relative optimal scheme is advanced regarding to some factors such as production situation, technology condition, improvement difficulty and implementation difficulty. After simulatingfor improved structure, the results show the improvement of acceleration curve and energy curve. Thereby side crashworthiness of the car has been increased.CAE method is used to simulate side crashworthiness of the car which supply an effective and feasible path for side impact safety research. The analysis and improvement for side crashworthiness of the car can improve passive safety research method of vehicles, provide the theoretical proof for product improvement design, decrease the risk and the cost in improvement stage, and upgrade credence of product improvement. And also be a method to verify both the test and the simulation each other and can shorten passive safety test period. The method and data provided in this thesis also have reference value for analyzing and studying side crashworthiness of other similar car type.
