1. PrefaceThe automobile which is a very important tool has become a necessary and basic factor of modern and high-speed development society. At the same time the high-speed development automobile industry have bring us safety problem which could be neglected. Side impact accident of the car is next to front impact, which occupies about 30percent of accident total in the forms of collision of front impact, side impact, rear impact and roll, and occupies about 35 percent in the accident of death and serious injury. In China, because the grade crossing is master in urban road traffic, the occurrence probability of side impact accident is highest, its death rate is only next to front impact's death rate, but the injury rate is first. So research on the safety of side impact becomes an important item in the passive safety of the car.When the side impact occurred, passengers would be hurt seriously in most situations. The region for absorb energy of side structure is not as enough as the front or rear structure of automobile is the main reason. Once the impact from side occurred, the narrow space between passengers and impact load make the protection of passengers'safety become a difficult problem. So the research in this field will do good to our society. In October 28, 1999, CMVDR 294 (Design Regulation for protect Passenger in Frontal Impact) has been carried into execution. It means that the development of crash regulation in our country has catch up the international development. The regulation for protect passenger in side impact in our country will be carry out recently. So we can see that the research of side impact will become a rapid grow up field. At present the appraisal injures which regarding the occupant injuries has unified evaluation criteria. Kinds of regulations eventually injure the target regarding the passive safety appraisal take the occupant injuries as to rest on. There is not a unified and accepted evaluation criteria for side crashworthiness. And regulation also does not have detailed specific stipulation.In recent years, the rising of Chinese auto market is incredible while at the same time, we Chinese auto manufactures seek to export their products all over the world. However, the quality of the vehicle lags western standards by wide margins; they must redesign their cars to meet tougher US and Europe Safety standards. This thesis is mainly focus on the research of automobile side crashworthiness US and Europe Safety standards required.2. Main Content1. Based on a lot of the associated papers, the significance of the automobile passive safety and the automobile side crashworthiness have been introduced.Moreover, the overseas and domestic study progress, the method and content of research are elaborated.2. The US and European regulations are two important safety regualation around world, which are referenced by other countries when they establish their own. So the US and Europe Automobile Side Crash standards have been detailedly investigated. Motional Deformable Barrier (MDB) side crash ECER95 and FMVSS214 ruled, Side Pole impact EUROPEAN NEW CAR ASSESSMENT PROGRAMME and FMVSS214 ruled. Testing characteristic of each side impact has been detailedly analyse.Moreover, their differentiate is inclued.Finally, aforesaid four load casess are choused as subject investigated of this thesis.3. PAM-CRASH as simulation software of side impact and its control of parameter have been introduced. Current modeling flow of side impact and coming questions of modeling process are inclued.The FE model of muti-load cases side impact, which is based on FE model of side impact ECER95 ruled, is molded and validated.4. The automotive safety of side impact is evaluated by the measured injury index of dummy in each national regulation.According to the main reason of injuries sustained by the occupants in lateral impact and the relation between injuries of occupants and response of automotive body, the evaluating indicator of side crashworthiness is proposed referring to the overseas and domestic correlative papers. The response of automotive body has been gained by simulation calculating of side impact in Multiple Load Cases. Comparing datum of one load cases with others, the differences in responses of automotive body between US and Europe Automobile Side Crash standards have been obtained. Moreover; the differences between MDB side impact and side pole impact also have been obtained. 5. The overseas and domestic measures improving automotive side crashworthiness are synoptically introduced. And new material, new technics and ameliorating structure of automotible body is included. The designed advices according to different requests of The US and European regulation and the responses of automotive body in every load cases have been advised.3. Significance of This Paper1. The valuable experience and modeling method were summarized during the modeling process of the FE model of Multiple Load Cases. The model in this paper can be enriched in the research in the future. For example, dummy model can be added. Injury criteria of the dummy model can be analyzed. The relationship of the deformation of body and the injury criteria of the dummy model can be analyzed in the future. All of that will lay a good foundation for the associated research in this field.2. The contrastive datum which can be obtained by analyzing simulation result of different load casess can provide designed advices of improving side crashworthiness for designer devising automotive body. They also can provide improving structure of automotive body with sufficient referenced datum.3. The research in Multiple Load Cases side impact crashworthiness draw a little domestic attention. Researchful flow of Multiple Load Cases side crashworthiness of automotive body that this thesis have been explored provide relative research with big reference value and wide extended value.
