Intersections are the bottleneck of urban transportation. The evaluation of intersections is very important. It can be realized through the method of testing on the spot or using simulation models. The first method plays a significant role in the operation evaluation of transportation monitoring and control system, but it is limited in real world to review things. While the second method, simulation model, has its unique merits: it can exactly analyze the intersection design and signal control manners that have not been implemented yet, can put forward with optimization suggestions for techniques that have already been implemented, can examine traffic systems with various systematic strategies without bringing any disturbance to existing traffic system, and can lead more effective system implementation. The method of traffic simulation even can become an obligatory tool and procedure in examining traffic planning in the future. This paper researches on microscopic traffic simulation model, analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of existing microscopic traffic simulation models, and gets the conclusion that existing microscopic traffic simulation models cannot well simulate intersection from microscopic angle. There are a variety of reasons causing such results, but the most important reason is the rapid development of computer hardware and the fast calculation speed of computers in recent years, which lead to the result that former simulation scales seem more and more macroscopic compared to present hardware. This paper analyzes drivers'driving behavior at intersections, establishes model of motors steering within intersection, uses the development method of software engineering, carries out demand analysis, overall design, and particular design to microscopic simulation of intersection from top to bottom, and develops a simulation software for single cross signalized intersection. This software uses classical vehicle following and lane-changing model on road sections; the simulation at intersection uses model of motor steering within intersection established by this paper. The software is designed to be extendable, which enables subsequent development and capability expansion.
