Some engineers often meet the problem about the design of the basement. How to choose the partial fixing of the tall-building with basement is very important which will affect the cost, structure security and so on.The effect of the earth to the building is so complex that there hasn't been an exact way to solve the problem. According to the related references, some experience has been done and can be used by the engineers. For example, the thickness of the basement upper plate and others must agree with the requirement from the Building seismic design code. However these references mostly focus on these basements fixed in both orientation, and there is less research about these basements fixed in one direction. In this situation, if the engineers take the basement plate as partial fixing carelessly, it will bring structure security problem to the structure. The engineers often meet this problem nowadays. So we must pay more attention to this problem. The research in this paper is about the proper election of the structure partial fixing when the basement is not fixed in all directions.Based on the references which have been collected, the comparison of several ways to choose the partial fixing of the tall-building has been done, and some suggestion has been given in this paper. In order to analyze this problem, the"Nan Ping Shi Ji Xing Cheng"is been taken as an example. The SATWE program is chosen in this paper which is used by most of engineers in our country. There are two models in this paper. The basement upper plate is chosen as the partial fixing in the first model and the foundation is chosen as the partial fixing in the other model. The two models of structure are compared in several aspects such as dynamic character, deformation character and stress character. Some conclusion can be drawn as following:1. The error rate of the direction which the basement is not fixed by earth is very little between two models in every aspect such as dynamic character, deformation character and stress character. It is because that the retaining wall of this direction has enough rigidity to restrain the structure.2. When the basement is fixed in one orientation, in order to increase the rigidity to restrain the structure, some shear wall in the other direction can be added if it will not affect the function of the building.
