The excavation in the soft soil is a subject we encounter very extensively. We have realized that the displacement of the soil greatly affect the structures which adjacent to the foundation pit. We could not figure out the exact deformation of the soft clay during the excavation up to the present. So, it is necessary to discuss the additional pressure and deformation in the soil induced by excavation.Especially, the soil offside the supporting structures should be given more importance. In this paper, the author research this problem based on elastic mechanics theory. Based on some hypothesis, the author deduced the formulations of both pressure field and displacement field surrounding foundation pit. In this paper, numerical simulation method is used to analysis this problem, which have considered pore pressure to simulate the consolidation of the soft soil. Programming frame is also given for the numerical simulation. In this paper, both the elastic mechanics method and the numerical analysis methods is used to analyze the Gui Lin RD Excavation, the Metro line No. 9 in Shanghai. The main results are presented as follow:First, the displacement curve is gained by the elastic analysis method. The calculating results correspond with the monitoring results;Second, the numerical analysis shows that, under the bottom of the supporting structure for excavation, the soil apparently move to the pit, and it results in the soil mass losing surrounding the foundation pit;Third, the numerical analysis shows that, by the influence of excavation, the points, which sits at the same horizontal level in the soil mass, form an exponential type settlement curve, and the settlement value is steady growth along with the depth;Fourth, the numerical analysis also shows that, the horizontal location...
