The rapid urbanization taking place in Asia since 1970 has exhibited a process different from that of the developed countries in the West. This process has contributed to the emergence of a new landscape in Asia——widely known as the desakota (a combination of two Indonesian words:"desa"for village,"kota"for town) areas. Following the rapid increase of economy, the small towns in east china areas(Yangtze River Delta and Pearl River Delta) have been developing fastest in the past years, and''desakota''have been emerging in these areas. And rural regions in these areas have been densely populated with the rapid urbanization, which make fragmentation in landscape. Fragmentation contribute to deterioration of ecological functions and ultimately decline in native species. The emerging of''desakota''area in Asia countries challenges long cherished Western notions concerning the separation of urban processes from rural processes. Firstly, the paper check the landscape characters of small towns, then analyse economic and society growing characters of''desakota''area in China. At last, make a conclusion of the landscape characters of small towns in''desakota''area.Secondly, the paper sum up he present ecological situation and developing characters of desakota towns. Check the characters of economic and society growing, and also the dynamics of landscape structures. Then make a conclusion of problems emerging in''desakota''areas and gives the basic principles of green system planning for small towns in"desakota"areas, such as roles, precepts, tasks and methods.
