The small towns play an important role in China's urbanization system, which are the political, economic, scientific, cultural centers of the regions and act as the center cities. "Strictly control the scale of large-sized cities and rationally develop middle-sized cities and small towns" is the fundamental guiding policy of the urban construction at present, and under the circumstance small towns get rapid development Whereas comparing to the large- and middle-sized cities, there is a common viewpoint of small towns' development The development of small towns focuses on the economy even at the sacrifice of environment, which made small towns into "dust towns" whose ecosystem has been badly destroyed. Therefore, we should pay more attention to the construction of small towns to avoid them taking the same disastrous road of development The research on green space system of small towns is especially necessary.At present, the green space system planning for small towns continues to use the method of doing with large and middle-sized cities. This is the blind imitation or copy which effects the development of green space system of small towns and makes them featureless. As far back as 60s in last century, American landscape architect I.Mcharg proposed, ideally, in urban region it would be best with two kinds of systems. One is the open space system protected by the natural evolution, and the other is a developing system. If the two systems were put together, it can provide satisfied open space for every citizen. The small towns being placed in the regional environment with rational scale and superior ecosystem have the ability to approach itIn view of the idea mentioned above, this thesis makes exploration to the theories and methods of green space system planning suitable for small towns. By the application of some correlative theories of urban planning, landscape ecology and negative planning and the method of contrasting argument, it begins with the characters of small towns and their layout, and men the features of green space system of small towns are analyzed with contrasting to that of large- and middle-sized cities. At the same time, it also sums up the problems existing in the green space construction of small towns. Based on the analysis, the thesis studies the theories and methods of green space system planning for small towns, including the classification, index and layout structure of green space.The function of modem urban green space system has switched from recreation and sightseeing to the double purpose of ameliorating urban environment and contenting landscape effects, and the construction of regional green space is vital to improving the urban ecological environment As in the macroscopic regional environment small town is just a dot in the regional planning, the construction of "green town" should be melt into the regional green space system planning. The thesis also pays attention to the idea of regional environment planning, and tries to apply it in the green space system planning for small towns which expands the study on urban green space system planning.There are six parts in the thesis.Part 1: literature summarization.Firstly, the fundamental concepts of green space system are explained and it reviews the main theories and successful practices of urban green space system at home and abroad. And then it sums up the theories of urban green space system planning and the condition of green space construction of small towns, and the construction and planning of green space system in China are emphasized.Part 2: introduction.It proposes the background and significance of the study and the study framework of the thesis.Part 3: analysis on the small towns and the features of their layoutBeginning with the brief introduction of connotation, types, functional features and development of small towns, it mainly analyses the characters of the small towns' layout and summarizes the problems existing in the construction of small towns at present in China.Part 4: analysis on the characters of green space system of small townsBased small towns upon, it elaborates the connotation and main functions of green space system of small towns. And then the characters of it are analyzed. Finally it sums up the drawbacks of traditional green space system planning for small towns and the problems existing in the present Part 5: study on the theory of green space system planning for small townsIt is the main part of the thesis. According to the features of small towns and their greenspace system, it explores the theory of green space system planning fit for small towns combinedwith the planning theories on hand.Part 6: conclusion and discussion.
