The main way to solve the long distance passenger transportation is to apply coaches, while in the coach transportation there are a lot of problems such as overloading phenomenon, thefts and robberies. These problems will be solved if we have an intelligent video surveillance system. Compared with analog monitoring, digital video monitoring can take pictures of passengers automatically , utilize the computer to process rapidly, realize remote transmission of data and improve the quality of image. What's more, the surveillance efficiency and system maintenance could be guaranteed. With the continuous development and consummation of digital signal processing, DSP chip is widely used in video processing and transmission field, due to its integration density, high computing speed and data throughput rate. As a result, we designed the passenger flow statistical system of coaches based on DSP. TMS320VC5402 of TI company is the kernel processor of the system , which convert analog video signal into digital signal with high-speed video decoding circuit. At last, the passenger flow statistic is implement by means of image processing to the digital signal.The system is consist of management center module, module on coach and output module. The image detecting board is the main part of module on coach, which is the platform of hardware to take pictures. Image analyzing and extracting were accomplished by means of emumating experiment. Dominant work:1. In hardware aspect, the design of image detecting board is introduced in details; In software aspect, not only the program to initialize system and SAA7111A is designed, but also the program of image collecting is given; The function of frequency division is implement in Lattice emumating environment.2. In image processing, mathematical morphology, frame difference, ultra limits domain method of average and labeling of connected domain is introduced essentially. The algorithm of the connected domain distinguishes is described emphatically, several existing algorithms are compared and a new 8 connected domain algorithm is proposed to solve the drawbacks of scanning repeatedly and large data storage. Based on the results, the actual number of passengers on coach can be acquired, which supplies the precise data for the realization of statistics function of Auto Passenger Count, further more, prepares the sound dependence for the imlement of the alarming function.
