Arch dam's body has arch effect and beam effect.The loads it supportted partly transferred to two shores by arches,and partly sent to foundation by beams.So it can make use of material intensity sufficiently.So,to a certain dam site,arch dam is one kind of quite superior dam type from the side of economy and safety signification.At the present time,more than 50 percent of dams which higher than 200 meters are arch dams.In the recent years,all kinds of arch dams have been constructed in the world,especially in our country.So that diversified optimum means are used in the design for shape of arch dams and the optimum research of arch dams shows more practical significance.In this paper the author expounds characteristics and development of arch dams,development and actuality of arch dam's optimum design;describes structure mechanics calculating principium and Genetic Arithmetic principium.Based on these,the author takes arch dam's geometrical characteristics as design variables,takes the dam's volume as objective functions,meanwhile,the author considers the geometrical constraint,stabilization constraint and stress constraint.Then the genetic arithmetic is utilized to program in order to fulfill the optimum design for shape of concrete arch dam on the basis of Fortran.In order to validate the program's correctness,the author accomplish a three-center arch dam's optimum design with Complex Method first,and compares its stress result to three-dimensional finite cell's stress result,validates its rationality.This paper upbuilds a concrete arch dam's optimum model,and use the program to implement a three-center double-curvature arch's optimum design.In order to show the feasibility and superiority of Genetic Arithmetic,the author contrast GA's calculating result to Complex Method's result.It indicates that GA's stress distribution accords with arch dam's universal rule,moreover it saves volume by 4.8 percent.To sum up,the result of GA is authentic and credible,and it can be used in three-center arch dam's optimum design.So it causes the optimum design of concrete arch dam to become more brief and concise.
