Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) is one of the most promising items for transportation. The traffic detection system researched in this paper is the important part of ITS. With the great progress in image processing, artificial intelligence, computer, and pattern distinguishes technology, the traffic information detection system based on video analyzing has been received more attention.Firstly, the paper briefly introduces the general development of the traffic detection system based on video analyzing, in both domestic and overseas. Then the whole system scheme is presented and analyzed, which is divided into the low-level and high-level parts. One is used for image processing and traffic information extracting. The other is the center control of the whole system. The embedded traffic-detection card which is presented by this paper is the center part of the information detection system. The input of the card is analog vehicular video, which will be converted into digitalized signal. Then the digital video has been processed by the DSP on the card. After this, the traffic information in the video has been obtained. All the information data and the digital video are transported to the low-level PC. Tow absolutely identical channels are integrated on the board, which insure the system processing tow-channel video from different direction. This paper fully analyzes the hardware design of the circuit board, which includes the DSP, audio and video decoder, memory, and the PCI interface component.Signal integrity issues and printed circuit board design have been discussed in the last part of the paper. Some critical instances also has been presented, which may affect the whole system's stability.
