With the increasing development of the power system, breaker, one of the power system controllers, must be able to reliably rapidly control the power system. The thesis mainly makes the research on the new type breaker—hybrid power electronics breaker, one of the FACTS (Flexible Alternating Current Transmission System) controllers, analyses the key performance, and also research on the short circuit current fast detection methods to improve the breaker's operation speed.Firstly, the paper introduces the hybrid power electronics breaker development background, describes this new type breaker of this research item and the measure-control device as a whole, and also analyses the key performance of the hybrid breaker. The performance of the operation and extinguishing arc between the traditional mechanical breaker and this new breaker is compared as well.Secondly, in order to control the hybrid breaker reliably and to make research on the key performance of this new breaker, the thesis design the new-type control and protection device based on th e DSP by the platform design method, and introduce the system's hardware and software structure in details. Thirdly, the thesis makes research on the short circuit current fast detection; especially research the two detection methods. One is the hardware circuit method; the other is the wavelet transform method. Though the simulation, the thesis demonstrates this two methods'feasibility. In the end, it designs a experimentation breaker, and draw conclusions about the operation performance of the hybrid breaker after making many experimentations. This thesis brings forward some ideas about the further research on the hybrid power electronics breaker.
