As an important aspect of urbanscape and city culture, the research of city color has some significant practical meaning. Against the background of globalization and rapid urbanization, now city color in China, on one hand, is in a chaotic and inharmonious state for the lack of proper and effective planning and control. On the other hand, city color shows a state of similitude because of the disappearance of regional characteristics. In the practice of city color planning, there are also issues such as orientating city color, controlling and managing city color effectively and reflecting regional features and culture through the planning and control.Based on the chromatology, urban planning theory, human geography, the thesis brings up the conception and elements of city color to date, and analyses certain issues such as perspective, harmony and regionality of city color. Aiming at the chaotic and inharmonious state of city color in China, the research puts forward a new reasonable and effective control method —the method of three elements, and it also concludes the contents of city color planning involving color survey, evaluation, orientation and zoning. After summing up the analytic method of regional city color and the analysis of some typical citys home and abroad, the thesis focuses on the absence of regional features of city color in China and intends to accomplish the inheritation and transformation of the traditional regional city color in the modern conditions with the method of planning and control. The thesis applies some relative theory of architecture realm for reference and puts forward a city color view of Neo-regionalism, a series of transformation methods from traditional regional city color to new regional city color and specific strategies which embody regionlity under different conditions. Meanwhile these conclusions are proved by some practice planning cases. To sum up, the research constructs an integrated and effective theory and method system to shape a harmonious, modern and culturally meaningful "new regional city color".
