Different from conventional power, wind power is an intermittent energy source, and its output is fluctuant with wind. With the enlargement of the wind farm scale, the stability and economy of the system will be reduced by the power fluctuating. Thus, how to master the variation regularity of wind power and build a global model of a wind farm is an important foundation to study its effects on the operation of power system.In this paper, based on Taonan wind farm's measured operation data, global model of wind farm by analyzing the operating characteristic is built, which are used to calculate and analyze installation limit of wind farm.Firstly, using a wind farm's measured data, the operating characteristic of a wind turbine generator system(WTGS) and the wind farm is analyzed, especially to the dispersion problem among different WTGS in a wind farm. The result shows the dispersion problem can't be neglected. This analysis is the foundation of the model of wind farm.Secondly, based on the measured data of WTGS, the relation between wind speed and output power is investigated. Considering the difference of the wind speed in a wind farm, the model of wind farm by serving the average speed is presented. By comparing with the real operating condition of wind farm, the error of the global model is less than 10%.Lastly, with Power System Analysis Software Package, dynamic simulation of grid with wind farm is realized. Taking Jilin power network as an example, methods of calculating wind farm installed capacity limit using power system steady and dynamic simulation are presented.
