Retractable roof structure has been used widely because of its excellent capability. Construction of this kind of structure has become fashion inland in recent years. There are already more or less than ten small size retractable roof structures, all of them run safely. Large size retractable roof structure has been development too. ShangHai QiZhongSenLin tennis stadium open its roof in plane curve.HangZhou Dragon Sports Center has launched in to use.JiangSu exhibition center which is in construction was the biggest and the most complex retractable roof structure in China has been accomplished. Although experience has been accumulated, the research works still in the primary stage.Based on the research before, this paper introduces the detail information in structural through a real structure and the numerical simulation of wind pressure distrib ution on another real structure.The dissertation is divided into three parts:Part one: A summary of retractable roof is presented.In this part ,the concepts, the development and the classifications of the retractable roof structure are concluded.Part two: This paper attempt to design a retractable roof structure from architectu re,structure and mechanism in the kind of traveling trusses and flexible roofage thro ugh a real structure of the retractable roof in the walk street plaza of Henglong build ing. Summary of some important points in design were presented.The comparision of several kinds of structure was taked. Ultimately a kind of traveling trusses and flexible roofage was picked up.Part three: A summary of recent research on the numerical simulation at home and abroad is presented. Application of numerical simulation on retractable roof structure will be viable. The wind loads on the construction surface of the retractable roof in Dragon Sports Center were numerically simulated by using RNG k-ε turbulent model and Fluent 6 software for computational fluid dynamics. Some information about the numerical simulation,such as the calculated flow area.grid divisions, boundary conditions, solved parameters, and the criterion for convergence, were detailed and the behaviour of wind pressure on surface of was provided. The comparision of the distribution of wind pressures on the roof with the results of wind tunnel test and numerical simulation in the several direction shows that they are consist with ach other in general,but there exist difference on certain local region. It indicates that the numerical simulation technique can predict the wind pressure distribution on the retractable roof structure for practical purpose.
