To large and medium-scale industries and utility boilers, steel frame is an important structure which supports the weight of the boiler drum, the water wall, the furnace wall and various diathermanous components. Boiler steel frame is complex three-dimension space steel structure, so it is hard to solve by classical methods in solid mechanics. As a result, it is often solved by finite element method. I-DEAS is kind of software with powerful finite element analysis ability and good integration. Finite element analysis and design for boiler steel frame would gain the advantages of convenience, direct visible, fleetness and high integration by using I-DEAS system.Based on the actual status and requirement of Jiangxi Jiang Lian Energy Sources and Environment Co. Ltd, the concept of developing and the implementation approach of the system especially for boiler steel frame with fem are studied. The main contents are as follows: Discuss the application of the digital technology in the structure design of boiler steel frame. Introduce the general process of fem design for steel frame by I-DEAS. And from the point of elevating the design efficiency, propose the necessity of the development of the system for boiler steel frame with fem. Analyse the performance requirements of the system. Present the mainconcept and basic way of developing the system. Introduce the classification of functions, and moreover the structure of functions within each module in details. Study the key technology applied during the developing of the system--KBE technology, the feature-based parameterized modeling technology and the application development technology. And present theirapplication in the development of the system. Analyse the development environment of the system of boiler steel frame with fem by I-DEAS. And based on the general concept of system development, present the realization of the system in details.The development of the fem system for boiler steel frame by I-DEAS is not only helpful to build design standard and criterion of the company, simplify the design process, improve the design quality and efficiency, but also a new way of structure design for products.
