On the foundation of comparing existing fault location methods, this paper selects C-Traveling Wave Method for main study object according to the characteristic of distribution network. C-Traveling Wave Method has major advantages as follows: first, it has rapid location speed; second, patrolling is not need; third, it can carry out fault location many times. This method is suitable for the fault location problem with earth resistance no larger than 3 . To further raise location accuracy, this paper puts forward a method combining C-Traveling Wave Method and S Injection Method to realize comprehensive location. To study the spread characteristic of traveling wave on the lines, dispersed forms of non-lossy line model and lossy line model are separately established, and numeric test is carried out. Then, on the basis of analyzing the key problems of information identification for traveling wave fault location, the corresponding processing method is put forward. And by analyzing the data of on-site test, the validity of this processing method is proved.
