The power generation which was generated by the hydroelectric power station in Yili region was transmitted to the primary grid by the 220kV transmission line of Jilintai-Jinghe-Kuitun. Because of low of the power grade and long of the transmission distance, the transmission line of Jinghe to Kuitun's transmission demand could not be satisfied. This paper did simulation research on the application efficiency of Thyristor Controlled Series Compensator (TCSC) in hydropower export problem of Yili region. The structure of TCSC and its operation mode had been introduced. Abundance of simulation calculations by the PSASP/EMTDC and PSASP indicate that the transient stable of Xinjiang power grid and the hydropower transmission capability of Yili region can be improved by the use of TCSC. Besides the power system oscillations can be restrained efficiently too.
