In developing country,the demand of electricity is continuously increasing at a very high rate due to the rapid industrial and infrastructure development.In order to meet this power demand,electrical engineers are facing challenges to transfer the big amount of power on their existing transmission system due to the increasing complexity in their operation and structure.The transmission lines are to be operated under the loaded condition and there is a risk of power flow control and transient stability in power system after a major fault.The power transfer on transmission line will be limited.This is where the Flexible AC Transmission Systems(FACTS)technology comes into effect in power system,with relatively low investment cost,compared to build new transmission line or generation facilities.The FACTS technology allows the electric power utilities to better use for their existing transmission line and generation reserves,while enhancing the power system performance.The Thyristor Controlled Series Compensator(TCSC)is a type of series compensator and also one of the essential devices of FACTS family which is installed with long transmission lines by the power utilities.It can have many applications for the operation and control in power systems.This thesis reports TCSC(Thyristor Controlled Series Compensation)is proposed to study on 230kV Double Transmission Line.In this research,PSCAD software has been developed between simple two bus system connected by double transmission lines to the load in order to study on power flow control with a comparison of the system feature with and without TCSC and also the damping power oscillation caused by the disturbances or faults.Another important point is to study on control strategy,the influence of characteristics and parameters design of the TCSC device on power system in order to indicated that the TCSC can greatly improve the performance of power system and also to be useful to get more benefit.
