The study on behavior of non-planar beam-wall joints signifies in structural engineering. This paper introduces mechanism of non-planar beam-wall joints, analyzes the external and internal research status of the problem, and mainly calculates the effective width of the wall. Based on theory of plates, an expression for effective width of the wall which is subjected to nonlinear loads is obtained firstly, then analyzes parameters and compares with the results of the wall which is subjected to linear loads. Test of four connection specimens with strong beam and weak wall is conducted under cyclic loading at the beam end, and by analyzing the proceeding and damage form, an effective area on bending and shearing of the wall is attained, thus a reasonable and simple formula for ultimate strength is obtained. Finally, some current problems in the study of non-planar connections are put forward, and an outlook of its development is given.
