Energy and environment have been the most important topics in resent years. With the increasing concerns on health and environment, countries around the world bring forward increasingly tightening regulation for reducing emissions. As a solution, clean liquefied fuels become more and more important. Dimethyl ether (DME) is a promising alternative fuel introduced in this paper. The traditional fuel injection system was found to be not well suited to alternative fuels. Recently, dimethyl ether has received attention as a clean alternative diesel fuel due to its highly effective, low NOx emissions, near to zero smoke and less engine noise compared with the values of traditional diesel fuels.The traditional diesel fuel system is not suitable for DME for its different characteristics. Based on the latest information, further research is carried out on the common-rail computerized high-pressure fuel injection system for DME engine. A new low-press common-rail fuel system is specially designed for direct injection DME engine. SPCE061A-16 which is from SUNPLUS is selected as the processor of the ECU. It is used to catch, analyze and process the signals. The ECU contains hardware electric circuit and controlled software. The hardware electric circuit includes input circuit, output circuit, and actuated solenoid valve circuit. The controlled software adopts modularization design method. Each process can be debugged independently, and then united together to a whole controlling program. A lot of measures are used to guarantee the system stabilization, like software filter and ant-jamming of hardware. At last, an online test connecting with the high-pressure oil bump is conducted to analyze the experiment data, amend the parameter and optimize the system and do some research about the injection characteristics of low-pressure common-rail system for dimethyl ether engine. The results of experiment indicate the system can attain expected function.
