It will be promoted soon that using pipelines to supply direct potable water for civil architectures, because it has so many merits, timely provision and convenience, uneasily- contaminated and so on. At the present time, the calculation of the design flow in portable water inside constructions is not unified to that of the design flow in domestic water supply. The "Square Root" or the "Uneven Modulus" is not accorded with the practical rules of water.According to the random event that people turn on or turn off the faucet while using water, the author proposes a new method based on probability theory to calculate the design flow in portable water pipelines inside constructions. The main research can be summed up as the followings:(1) Referencing the method in calculating the design flow in domestic water supply, the article analyzed and studied the probable factors that may influence the design flow in portable water, and determined some of the main factors, including the quota, the number , the differences among regions, hourly variation coefficient , rate of flow, supply time and so on;(2) The rules of potable water is different from that of domestic water supply. The fixture unit is generally constant;(3) A new way to calculate the using probability of potable water and the parameters of several buildings are determined;(4) Considering the security and the reliability of potable water system, the guarantee rate in this article takes 0.99. The article finally established the diagram of N~q in the system of the potable water pipeline through plenty of calculations;(5) Referencing the new method in calculating the design flow in portable water of residential buildings, the article researched the method in calculating the design flow in portable water of public buildings such as office building, dormitory, classroom building, hospital, hotel and so on, and gave corresponding parameters. Meanwhile it considers that the loading population per fixture unit could be more important than any other factor.Essentially speaking, the new probability method of calculating the design flow in portable water inside constructions is half-theoretical and half-experienced. As for the residential buildings, the research in this article proves to be much better, and has its own superiority and advancement contrasted to the old two ways. Meanwhile It indicates we can use the probability method to calculate the design flow in portable water of public buildings and the results are suitable for the actual rules too.
