Externally bonding Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic(CFRP) plates or sheets is a new procedure in structural retrofitting engineering, The research and engineering application of CFRP in the strengthening and repair of reinforced concrete beam is currently seen as a promising method, mainly due to its high ratio of strength and weight, and ease of fabrication and installation. It is important to analyze the mechanical character of reinforced concrete beams strengthened with CFRP. Reinforced structures demonstrate the secondary loading phenomenon that produces the strain hysteresis of CFRP .Therefore the concept of effective CFRP strength coeficient is introduced for calculation of flexural capacity of strengthened beams. On the basis of determination of limit bending moment, a method for calculating the ultimate flexural capacity of RC beam strengthened with CFRP is proposed when the effect of secondary load is considered. The flexural behavior of RC beam strengthened with CFRP are analyzed utilizing finite element program named ANSYS. Numerical simulation results show in good agreement with experiment ones. It means that the analyzing methods proposed in this paper are reasonable, which can be referred for construction design and model experiment.
