Research On Railway Passenger Transportation Seat Inventory Control

Railway passenger transportation department adopts the single ticket price system continuously in our country, it restricts the profits of the railway passenger transportation department seriously, and the multi ticket prices system must be put into practice. When the railway passenger transportation put the multi ticket prices system into practice, in order to increase the profits, we introduce Revenue Management which is success used in airline industry into our country railway passenger transportation in this paper.Yield Management /Revenue Management originates from US airline industry in the end of 1970s. Although only two decades old, the discipline of Revenue Management is suddenly taking the business world by storm. In the airline industry, where it first really took hold, Revenue Management practices and technologies have become the primary elements in increasing revenue and profit. Meanwhile, Revenue Management is appropriate for our country railway passenger transportation too.Railway passenger transportation seat inventory control is certainly one of the most important problems in railway passenger transportation Revenue Management. It means the allocation of available seats to different fare classes with the goal of maximizing total income. In order to create seat inventory control model which is appropriate for railway passenger transportation, this paper firstly addresses the classics problem of only two fare classes and discusses the model of two fare classes on one section. Next, we introduce the EMSR theory which is adapted to the multi fare classes on one section. The seat inventory control model of multi fare classes on multi sections is created in this paper afterwards, and we believe it is appropriate for our country railway passenger transportation.The genetic algorithm is a kind of searching method which simulates the natural evolution. It is simple and easy to implement, especially it do not need the special field knowledge, so it has been using in very broad fields. Now the genetic algorithm has got a lot of fruits and more scholars begin to pay attention to it. Base on the analysis of the genetic algorithm theory, this paper addresses the solving process of the model of multi fare classes on multi sections finally.
