The city pipeline engineering consists of feedwater pipe, rainwater pipe and sewage pipe, is a part and parcel of the municipal engineering. First of all, pipeline engineering needs excavating trench during pipeline construction, which produce interior stress redistribution and interior distortion in slope, adding natural environment and artificial influence, as cause the debaseing of trench stabilization. In addition, in order to reduce construction cost, quicken rate of progress, the construction corporation and city administrative department offen neglect disastrous hazard. However, at present, the problem of trench wall slope stabilization was rarely studied. Based on the model examination and theoretical analysis, the slope stabilization and supporting system are studied in this paper. Trying to acquire trench slope failure law in different conditions, and provide theoretical foundation to the slection of trench sustentation system.In the basis of the analyse pipeline engineering characteristic, four model esperiments were carried out, under different density, different water containing and different rain fall intensity, experimentation results indicate that: (1) Along with the increasing of soil density, its stability gradually increases, density is an important factor affecting the slope stability. (2) Under a certain extent the water containing helps to enhance the stability of slopes, and over that extent the stability will debase with the increasing of the water containing. (3) Under the same rainfall the longer is the raining duration the worse will be the slope stability, so it is evident that the climate is a key factor affecting the trench slope stability. (4) The soil friction coefficient and cohesive force vary sensitively with the water containing, so the latter is an important factor affecting the trench slope stability.According to the analysis of experimental results, referring to the friction parameters of sandy and cohesive soil under different water containing and different density, calculated by limit balancing theory, computed by method proper, a series of trench slope stability coefficient in different depth is obtained. On the basis of the latter an programme for slelecting adequate trench supporting system was put forward.
