The traditional methods of evaluating Human-Machine Interface (HMI) of cab no longer adapt to the new development of automobile industry. A new method of evaluating the HMI is discussed in this thesis. After researching the theory of Human-Machine Engineering, national and international standards, the evaluation system of cab displaying and controlling system has been established based on car design theory. The system consists of objective and subjective evaluation indices of controlling system, instrument panel, seat and comprehensive evaluation of cab.The evaluation software which can be run independently is compiled based on Matlab and the connection between Matlab and database is researched too. The complicated theory and fussy evaluation process is simplified so that the evaluators can gain the results of evaluation easily. The Artificial Neural Network (ANN) theory is applied in the evaluation process of HMI, and a more reasonable evaluation model is established. Therefore, not only the subjective estimation is expressed, but also the human influence is lightened, the objectivity of evaluation can be ensured. The virtual reality environment and virtual instruments are created. The virtual instruments are created with GL studio and several key technologies have been discussed in the process of building virtual reality scene based on Vega Prime. At last, the virtual instruments are embedded in the cab in virtual reality scene, and displaying of the virtual instruments is accomplished in the virtual reality scene. Finally, the application of method mentioned above based on a certain car has been presented. The practical results indicated that the method is effective, and the better design plans are put forward.
