With the increasing development of ship navigation system, the demand of system is becoming more and more urgent. The Integrated Navigation Console (INC) is the data processing center of this system, its significance and reliability is vital important to the voyage of the ships. The DOC (DiskOnChip) is the memorizer of INC and the navigation information is put in it. So DOC is very important for ship. The traditional way of changing information is very complex, so the method of changing the navigation information needs improving.USB has many advantages such as fast speed, plug and play, hot plug-unplug, convenient use and it supports to use once it's inserted in PC. At present, USB has become the main current interface of the PC machine and exterior correspondence to communication. With the rapid development of USB technology, USB provides technical support for the changing method of system application program.The paper discussed the development of USB and analyzed the structure of USB firstly, then analyzed the FAT16 file system of the DOC. These research provide the theory foundation for the realization of the hardware and firmware. Based on these theories, the whole system of the USB device was designed. Then the design of the hardware and the firmware was given in detail.The design of hardware mainly consists of two parts: the USB interface and the function unit. It can be divided into four parts in detail: external circuit of PDIUSBD12, interface circuit of PDIUSBD12 and MCU, interface circuit of DOC and MCU, serial port circuit which is used to debug. The software development of the system is mainly the development of the firmware, the layer structure of method carry on the design. The modularizing and layer architecture is adopted, which makes it easy to realize, port, reuse, test and modify. The firmware follows the USB1.1 specification, the FAT16 file system and UFI command specification. The firmware uses C language to program to complete the program mold design.This design provides a kind of new convenient way to the communication of the host and the DOC. This research has the high engineering application value.
